U-Boat 1938 Doppiotempo
The U-Boat 1938 Doppiotempo is the latest addition to the Italian brand’s growing product portfolio. In recent years, the company has engaged with a wider audience, courtesy of more product ranges, different complications and various case sizes. This latest GMT model is available in two dial colours, black or green.
Italo Fontana, the owner of Italian brand, U-Boat is also the brand’s designer. In the early days, the firm gained a reputation for vintage-inspired divers’ watches with bold styling. Each model possessed a vintage vibe, evoking thoughts of the steampunk movement. Moreover, Fontana also has shown a predilection for using unusual materials when creating his timepieces, including aluminium, bronze, silver and titanium.
Most horophiles will associate U-Boat with large watches measuring 45 or 47mm and, in particular, the firm’s Classico model. However, in recent years, the brand has introduced new watches which embrace different styles as well as smaller case sizes. Indeed, these days the Italian marque offers something for everyone.
The firm has now unveiled an interesting dual-time model, the U-Boat 1938 Doppiotempo range. Housed in a 43mm stainless steel case, the watch is offered in two dial options, black or green. At the heart of the watch is a Swiss automatic movement, tailored to the brand’s own specification and incorporating a skeletonised rotor.
Upholding the brand’s fondness for sandwich-type dials, the U-Boat 1938 Doppiotempo features beige, openworked hour and minute hands, treated with Super-LumiNova. In addition, a bold red hand, in conjunction with a 24-hour track, indicates the home time. Lastly, a subdial on the dial serves as a day/night indicator.
