OMEGA Seamaster Diver 300M “Beijing 2022” Special Edition
The OMEGA Seamaster Diver 300M “Beijing 2022” Special Edition celebrates next year’s Olympic Winter Games. It combines some Olympic-themed details with some remarkable watchmaking expertise, offered at a very competitive price.
In the current era of Covid-19, the idea of making plans seems futile. Last year, the two leading watch expos, Watches and Wonders and Baselworld were cancelled. Likewise, the Geneva Motor Show, Wimbledon and various Formula One races were all struck from the calendar.
Perhaps one of the biggest disappointments was the postponement of the Olympic Games Tokyo 2020, now scheduled to start on 23 July 2021. However, in my opinion, we still need to plan for future events and believe that bright skies will inevitably return.
Omega has been the Official Timekeeper of the Olympic Games since 1932, witnessing some of the greatest sporting achievements in history. Recently, the Swiss marque unveiled the OMEGA Seamaster Diver 300M “Beijing 2022” Special Edition, a model that celebrates the next Olympic Winter Games scheduled to take place from the 4th to 20th February 2022. Like millions of people, I hope that the gods eventually smile on everyone and we are indulged with a fabulous sporting spectacle.
The OMEGA Seamaster Diver 300M “Beijing 2022” Special Edition shares much of its DNA with standard Diver 300M, but with some unique details which, in my opinion, enrich the ownership experience. Housed in a 42mm stainless steel case, the watch is fitted with a unidirectional rotating bezel which incorporates a Grade 5 titanium bezel ring with a diving scale presented in positive relief. The case features a screw-in crown, augmenting the model’s water resistance (300m).
The blue dial is adorned with a wave motif, while the hour, minute and seconds hands have received a liberal application of Super-LumiNova, aiding readability in restricted light. Circular indexes denote the hours, save for the cardinal points. Five of the circular indexes are framed with a brightly coloured border, each referencing one of the coloured Olympic Rings. The model is equipped with a helium valve and, upholding divers’ watch convention, is fitted with a solid caseback. The caseback is stamped with the Olympic Winter Games Beijing 2022 emblem and incorporates the brand’s ingenious NAIAD LOCK system which ensures said emblem is perfectly aligned.
However, the pièce de résistance is the Omega Co-Axial Master Chronometer Calibre 8800. This self-winding movement is ‘Master Chronometer Certified’ and resistant to magnetic fields up to 15,000 gauss. The specification includes a free sprung-balance and a silicon balance spring, a combination that proves rare in this price segment. Lastly, the bridges and oscillating weight are adorned with ‘Geneva waves in arabesque’.
I applaud Omega for its optimism when many people remain despondent. Clearly, we will have to see what happens. However, the OMEGA Seamaster Diver 300M “Beijing 2022” Special Edition does deliver certainty in a very uncertain world. Put simply, it is handsome, beautifully made and features an impressive movement.

The brand’s press release (February 2021)
It’s now just one year until the Olympic Winter Games Beijing 2022 begin in China. As the Official Timekeeper of this historic event, OMEGA has begun the celebrations early with a new timepiece dedicated to the occasion.
The Seamaster Diver 300M “Beijing 2022” Special Edition features a 42 mm case crafted from stainless steel, and includes a unique grade 5 titanium bezel ring with a 60-minute diving scale in positive relief.
On the sun-brushed blue ceramic [ZrO2] dial, owners will find laser-engraved waves along with rhodium-plated indexes and hands filled with Super-LumiNova. As a special tribute to Beijing 2022, there are also five special minute-markers at 2H, 4H, 8H, 10H and 12H, with each one created in the five colours of the iconic Olympic Rings.
On the reverse side of the watch, the polished and brushed caseback includes a stamped Olympic Winter Games Beijing 2022 emblem. OMEGA’s patented NAIAD LOCK system keeps all the engravings in perfect alignment, while behind the caseback sits the OMEGA Co-Axial Master Chronometer Calibre 8800. This powerful movement and the entire watch have passed the 8 tests set by the Swiss Federal Institute of Metrology (METAS), guaranteeing the industry’s highest standards of precision, performance and magnetic resistance.
Inside the special presentation box, the timepiece is set on a polished and brushed stainless steel bracelet including OMEGA’s patented extendable foldover rack-and- pusher with an extra diver extension.
