The Omega Seamaster Diver 300M America’s Cup Chronograph is a new limited-edition model, celebrating the watch brand’s role as the Official Timekeeper of the 36th America’s Cup. Beyond the branding, this model is festooned with a myriad of smile-inducing delights.

Official Timekeeper of the Olympics Games

Omega has always been on hand to time the most significant sporting moments. The Swiss marque has been the Official Timekeeper of the Olympics Games on 28 occasions. Moreover, the company’s ‘Worldwide Olympic Partnership extends through to the 2032 Olympic Games and Paralympics Games’. The watch brand has recorded time with incredible precision on those occasions when tenths of a second can result in success or failure.

The historical watch firm has also enjoyed a long relationship with the world of sailing and, most pertinently in this instance, the America’s Cup. In 1995, Omega supported Team New Zealand with the brand becoming Official Timekeeper in 2000 and again in 2003. The prestigious firm is returning to this role in 2021 with the 36th edition of the legendary sporting event.

Omega Seamaster Diver 300M America’s Cup Chronograph – the Professional diver’s watch

In 2000, the brand from Biel/Bienne released a version of its Seamaster Professional diver’s watch adorned with America’s Cup branding. Three years later, Omega unveiled the Seamaster Professional America’s Cup in two variants (2003). This latter model was a chronograph and featured a 5-dot countdown timer for regatta use. In 2020, the America’s Cup branding appeared on a limited-edition version of the Planet Ocean. Now, the legendary watch company has released a new model for 2021, the Omega Seamaster Diver 300M America’s Cup Chronograph.

Housed in a 44 mm steel case, the Seamaster Diver 300M America’s Cup Chronograph looks reassuringly familiar. It shares much in common with the ‘regular’ Seamaster Diver 300m Co-Axial Master Chronometer Chronograph 44 mm. The hour and minute hands are openworked, luminescent and include oversized tips. Circular indexes denote the hours, a date aperture is positioned at 6 o’clock and the dial is laser-engraved with a wave pattern. So far, so ‘regular’ Seamaster.

Bi-compax dial

However, this model ventures off-piste and delivers some new, highly desirable features. The watch is endowed with a blue ceramic dial and a bezel ring marked with a white enamel diving scale. The Omega Seamaster Diver 300M America’s Cup Chronograph upholds the bi-compax design of the ‘regular’ Seamaster Diver 300m Co-Axial Master Chronometer Chronograph 44 mm bestowing the composition with a becoming symmetrical appearance. But again convention is set aside with the right counter which, in this instance, sports a ‘regatta countdown indicator ring’ along with an hour disc partially revealed via an arc-shaped aperture.

The pushpieces, positioned on the right side of the case, are executed in rubber, augmenting grip, especially useful when hands are wave-sodden. A new ‘Quick Change system’ allows the wearer to exchange the steel bracelet for a rubber strap without the need for tools. Both the bracelet and the rubber strap are supplied as standard.

A helium valve is located on the left flank of the case with a slide for the ‘CHRONO LOCK’ system positioned below. After recording an event using the chronograph, the wearer is able to lock the pushpieces preventing the measured time from being corrupted.

Lastly, the watch is equipped with an automatic movement, the Calibre 9900. This movement incorporates a co-axial escapement is a chronometer. It has two barrels and is resistant to magnetic fields up to 15,000 gauss.

With its new chronograph lock-system, quick-change strap and water grip pushers, the OMEGA Seamaster Diver 300M America’s Cup Chronograph is a fitting tribute to the 36th America’s Cup presented by PRADA.

Built from stainless steel, the 44 mm chronograph has a blue ceramic dial and bezel ring, which features a white enamel diving scale. To get a better handle on the watch in high swells, OMEGA has included soft-touch rubber pushers, ergonomically designed to work efficiently in the wet and stylishly picked out in red and blue.

Its laser-engraved wave-pattern dial includes a ‘regatta countdown indicator ring’ in red anodized aluminium, which features an hour disc underneath the subdial, and a red anodized aluminium minute and rhodium-plated small seconds hand inspired by the shape of a boat hull. The central seconds chronograph hand, also in red anodized aluminium, carries an America’s Cup on the counterweight.

OMEGA’s exclusive CHRONO LOCK system is included to secure the chronograph functions when needed. A must when marking time on the water, as sailing at high speeds leaves no room for error.

As with all great commemorative watches, the event and year is clearly marked and highlighted in bold. On the Alveol shaped caseback, engravings filled with blue lacquer spell out “36th America’s Cup” and “Auckland 2021”.
