Louis Moinet Watch Reviews

Monsieur Louis Moinet (1768-1853), a French watchmaker, invented the first chronograph in 1816, a fact independently validated by Guinness World Records. Moinet’s groundbreaking pocket watch, the ‘Compteur de Tierces’ was designed to measure astronomical transits.

The chronograph has a frequency of 216,000 vph (30 Hz), an ultra-fast cadence that few brands have been able to match since, despite having modern-day technology at their disposal. The movement’s high frequency allows the user to measure intervals down to 1/60th of a second.

This remarkable example of ingenious watchmaking is very much part of the modern-day Maison. For example, the Louis Moinet Space Revolution, released in 2020, features two flying tourbillons that orbit the dial at different speeds, delivering both precision and a visual spectacle par excellence.

Today’s brand has become known for its design prowess. Indeed, the company, led by its charismatic CEO, Jean-Marie Schaller, has won numerous prestigious design awards.
