Hermès slim d’Hermès Quantième Perpétuel

The Hermès slim d’Hermès Quantième Perpétuel delivers a high-quotient of functionality, including a perpetual calendar, the prevailing hour in a second time zone (home time) and a day/night indication. However, despite displaying numerous indications, the model remains elegantly slender.

The perpetual calendar is often termed a ‘high complication’ owing to its incredible complexity. In this instance, the complication is delivered using a module produced by specialist firm Agenhor. It is able to identify those months with 28, 29, 30 and 31 days and advance the date, as appropriate, to the first of the month. Moreover, this complication, as already intimated, can recognise leap years. Assuming the watch is wound, the date will not require manual adjustment until 2100.

Such complexity usually leads to a bulky torso, however, Hermès has cleverly housed this complication in a slender case. In addition to displaying the date, month, leap year and moon-phase, the Hermès slim d’Hermès Quantième Perpétuel also shows the prevailing hour in a second timezone and includes a day/night indicator.

A self-winding movement augments user convenience and employs a micro-rotor to energise the mainspring without unduly increasing the height of the case. Consistent with Hermès’ reputation, luxury abounds. Two models are available, both housed in a 39.5mm Grade 5 titanium case. One version is equipped with a platinum bezel with a white gold crown and pusher, while the second features an 18-carat 5N rose gold bezel, crown and pusher.

The Slim d’Hermès Quantième Perpétuel immediately draws the gaze. The numerals with their font specially designed by Philippe Apeloig stand out with light and airy grace. While the date, month, dual-time and leapyear indications are displayed on various counters, a mother-of-pearl moon phase graces an aventurine sky backdrop at 3 o’clock. The elegant and graphic dial melts seamlessly into the surrounding precious rose gold and titanium or titanium and platinum case.

The remarkably technical ultra-thin Manufacture H1950 movement is equipped with one of the most demanding horological complications: a perpetual calendar. This authentic ‘mechanical memory’ ensures that the date of months with 30 and 31 days is automatically adjusted, while taking account of leap years by indicating February 29th every four years without any need for corrections. Adorned with a ‘sprinkling of Hs’ and meticulously hand-bevelled, the movement also powers day/ night, dual-time and moon-phase indications within a composition measuring just 4 mm thick. This impressive demonstration of horological expertise may be admired through the sapphire crystal case-back.
