I am father of two grown-up children. As any parent can attest, there are always those moments where you find yourself asking, ‘What if?’ I am often fretting about my children being subject to violence or ill-health. The fact is, despite my children being in their twenties, I never cease worrying.

I am thankful for my children and have empathy for those who have been less fortunate. Recently, I received an email from Christopher and Gill Godwin. Their daughter, Esme, suffered a combination of Chickenpox and a heavy winter cold. Despite fighting illness for three weeks, she tragically passed away, aged just 2¼ years.

During her battle with her illness, Esme was treated by the Paediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU) at Southampton General Hospital. PICU strive to save the lives of some 1000+ babies and young children each year.

Christopher and Gill set up ‘The Esmee Godwin Fund’ in memory of their late daughter. The purpose of their charitable fund is to raise funds and awareness for PICU. In recent years, they have raised funds through a variety of events, including mountain challenges, cycle rides and music concerts, to name but a few.

Now the couple have arranged a charity auction of objects and experiences, consisting of approximately 80 lots, including art, ceramics, furniture, glass and ‘amazing trips’. The sale will be held on the 4th May at Buckland Village Hall.

Interestingly, the auction will include the sale of a bespoke wristwatch, hand-crafted by Wessex Watches. The piece unique has been ‘specially created for the Esmee Godwin Fund Auction 2019 in aid of the Friends of PICU’.
