This article about the Bovet 1822 Amadeo Fleurier 43 Two Bald Eagles includes details of the grand feu enamelling, details of the collaboration of Ilgiz Faulzyanov and image of the watch.
Throughout the impressive history of Bovet 1822, artisanal craftsmanship has been championed to glorious effect. Indeed, the maison has been practising métier d’art for generations dating back to the brand’s magnificent pocket watches of the 19th century.
Bovet recently announced that it has collaborated, once again, with Ilgiz Fazulzyanov, the esteemed jeweller and enamelist. The result of this collaboration is the Bovet 1822 Amadeo Fleurier 43 Two Bald Eagles, featuring a grand feu enamel dial. The dial captures the motion of the two eagles ‘battling mid air, rendered in exquisite grand feu enamel’.
Grand feu enamel requires each colour be applied to the dial, in this case an 18-carat red gold dial, and fired at temperatures circa 800C. Consideration has to be given to the time the enamel is exposed to the heat to ensure the desired shade is achieved and no cracking or bubbling occurs.
Ilgiz, a son of Kazan, has mastered miniature painting in grand feu enamel and is regarded as one of the finest creative jewellers of his generation. His prowess in all disciplines has led to him being ‘the first jeweller to be invited to the Kremlin Museum since Pierre Karl Fabergé in 1917.’
Previous pieces created for Bovet by Ilgiz include ‘The Horsemen of the Apocalypse’ and ladies’ timepieces inspired nature with ‘mainly floral themes’.
The Bovet 1822 Amadeo Fleurier 43 Two Bald Eagles includes the brand’s patented Amadeo convertible system. This ingenious system allows the wristwatch to be converted into a table clock or pocket watch without the need for tools.
Housed within the 43mm red gold case is a self-winding mechanical movement, the 11BA12, featuring an impressive 72 hour power reserve.
Exclusivity is assured with this piece-unique, a timepiece which fuses horology and art in sublime union.
