Nomos Glashuette Watch Reviews

Shortly after the collapse of the Berlin Wall, Roland Schwertner, an IT expert and photographer from Düsseldorf, founded NOMOS Glashütte.
Glashütte, a picturesque town in Saxony, was formerly located in the German Democratic Republic. It has a rich history of making watches dating back to 1845 when Ferdinand Adolph Lange set up his Manufactory with 15 apprentices.

Today, Glashütte is considered the epicentre of German watchmaking.
In 1992, NOMOS Glashütte unveiled its inaugural collection comprising four models, namely, the Ludwig, Orion, Tangente and Tetra. These models remain in the present-day range and continue to prove very popular.

In the early years, NOMOS procured ETA movements, specifically the hand-wound Peseux 7001. However, in 2005, the firm released its first in-house movement, the Alpha Calibre.

Later in 2014, the firm unveiled the NOMOS swing system, the company’s own proprietary escapement and regulation organ.

The following year (2015), NOMOS released the slender Calibre DUW 3001 – a self-winding movement measuring just 3.2 mm in height, providing the convenience of an automatic movement while proving thinner than many simpler hand-wound calibres.

Today, NOMOS fuses Bahaus design with technically virtuous movements. Moreover, the firm has gained a reputation for making watches that deliver an impressive quality-price ratio.
